Baking with poppy seeds

Who loves poppy seeds as much as I do? To this day, the family-run bakery in the small village in the South of Germany where I grew up makes the most fabulous poppy seed slices. Sometimes, Mum would get ‘something’ for afternoon coffee, and if I could put in a ‘request’, it would be one of those slices. So, this class is dedicated to all things ‘poppy seed’, and my recipe for the filling of the poppy seed tartlets is, indeed, based on those wonderful slices.

What are we going to create?
- a poppy seed & lemon loaf cake,
- yeast scrolls with a delicious poppy seed filling
(alternatively, we could create a large twisted
poppy plait)
and
- pastry-based tartlets with a poppy seed cream
and butter crumble, in memory of those
delicious slices
They all taste so amazing!

We will start the class around our kitchen table, and I will take you through the recipes step-by-step, before you roll up your sleeves and start kneading, rolling and mixing! We will finish off around the kitchen table with a bite to eat (a cheese, dips and fruit platter),
AND … you will take one of each cake home, so you can share your creations with your family.

Apart from being fun, the class is designed to provide you with the skills and confidence to replicate each recipe at home. I also keep classes small (with a maximum of 6 participants), so that there is plenty of opportunity for questions and conversations to maximise your learning experience.

The duration of the class is approx. 4 - 4 1/2 hours. The class is suitable for beginners as well as those seeking to expand their repertoire.
